Pointing Gun at Workers, Police
Shortly after 1 AM Friday morning, police said an employee of Brown University called police reporting that she had a rifle pointed at her by one or more of the subjects from inside this vehicle before it fled the area.
As officers were speaking with the employee, patrol units saw the vehicle on North Main Street and attempted to halt it.
It was at this time a pursuit began, say police, with the suspects and vehicle wanted for at least one count of felony assault, and in connection with the incidents reported earlier in the evening.
When police were in pursuit, they said they observed a subject in the vehicle turn around and point a rifle at them; a lengthy pursuit took place, say police, with the vehicle lost numerous times, but was reacquired when officers searched the areas it was last seen.
This pursuit at one point entered into Pawtucket where police there assisted; Johnston Police were also involved as the vehicle utilized Killingly Street to get from Manton Avenue to Hartford Avenue. Rhode Island State Police assisted as well.
Juveniles Apprehended
Police say that due to mechanical problems, the suspect vehicle came to a halt on Salmon Street, hitting a large section of granite curbing and coming to a sudden rest against a fire hydrant where three suspects were apprehended.
All suspects were juveniles; one sustained a facial laceration as a result of striking the dashboard when the vehicle came to a sudden halt say police.
All three suspects were examined by rescue with the lacerated juvenile being transported to Hasbro Hospital. Two rifles were located inside the vehicle which were photographed and seized by detectives.
All three juveniles were charged with two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy, with the vehicle operator charged with reckless driving and eluding authorities as well.
A family court judge ordered all three respondents to be held. No officers sustained any injuries.
