EDITORIAL: One RI Business Leader Stands Up and Fights to Restore the Economy
Saturday, September 11, 2021
In an era when few business leaders are willing to step forward, step up, and help lead, one top CEO is making a bold move to grow the economy and improve public health.
Neighborhood Health Plan of RI's President and CEO Peter Marino is actually leading.
Neighborhood is implementing a COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Policy, effective September 17, for employees, temps, interns, and some contractors in compliance with the Rhode Island Department of Health’s (RIDOH) new rule introduced on August 18.

“Neighborhood’s policy is not only the right thing to do to keep our staff, our members and our communities healthy and safe, it also aligns with Neighborhood’s mission as a trusted healthcare service provider serving Rhode Island communities disproportionately impacted by the pandemic,” said Marino.
“Neighborhood has done a tremendous job ensuring our members know the life-saving health benefits of getting vaccinated and requiring staff to be vaccinated is the next best step in addressing this public health crisis,” he added.
His policy is a real policy -- no cheats by claiming to do weekly testing to circumvents the need to vaccinate. The Delta variant is killing people and making children sick.
“Our new policy requires staff to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 as a condition of employment, subject to limited medical and religious exemptions, by October 1 to be compliant with the RIDOH rule,” added Marino.
He concluded, “Neighborhood will continue to be an active and vocal advocate for vaccination as the best pathway to emerge from the pandemic.”
Marino's comments are based on science, expertise, and common sense. Time for all Rhode Islanders to be leaders and help the state be the most vaccinated and the state with the best economy.
