CVS Supervisor Stabbed in Providence Store After Confronting Shoplifter

A supervisor of a CVS store in Providence was stabbed after attempting to confront a shoplifter.

The victim was reportedly pepper sprayed by the assailant before being stabbed.

About Incident

Shortly after 3 PM on Wednesday, police responded to the CVS at 960 Broad Street for a report of a stabbing.

Police said they were told the suspect had fled the store, and were given a description of the male attacker. 

Upon arriving at the store, police met with the victim — a male in his mid-20s — who was bleeding heavily from his lower leg. 

According to police, the victim said he went to confront a shoplifter in a store aisle, when the suspect became belligerent.

The suspect pepper sprayed the employee before a physical altercation between the men occurred, with the suspect stabbing the employee before fleeing. 

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. 

 

Police Arrest Suspect 

Police said that shortly after the incident, detectives patrolling the area observed a male matching the broadcasted description on Burnside Street. 

According to police, the suspect — later identified as Jose Lamoso, age 41, was found to have the stolen merchandise in his possession. 

Lamoso was taken into custody and transported to Central Station for charging.
