House Oversight Committee Chair Patricia Serpa

Rhode Island House Oversight Committee Chair Patricia Serpa discussed the new federal investigation of RI’s UHIP rollout and costs, and what she said was  “window-dressing” undertaken by state officials with the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth, and Family (DCYF), when she appeared on GoLocal LIVE with News Editor Kate Nagle on Wednesday.

GoLocal reported this week that there was little public outrage after 10 babies were died in state care in the last 26 months — and that over 110 budgeted positions at DCYF have gone unfilled.

On Wednesday, Serpa said on GoLocal LIVE that the committee would continue to press on the DCYF issue, which she said was hindered by the “window dressing” of DCYF employees at the recent House hearing who boasted of cost-savings for the department while children.were going unchecked - and dying.

Serpa also talked to the federal government looking for UHIP audit information — which Serpa said the committee had just asked for from the state, calling the information they had gotten so far as “suspect.”
