CCRI Student Arrested for Assaulting College Police Officer

Providence Police arrested a man for assaulting a CCRI Police Officer at the Providence Campus on Hilton Street. 


About Incident 

Police responded shortly after 3 PM on Wednesday to the entrance of the CCRI Providence Campus, where they met with a CCRI Police Officer - a male in his 60s - who said he had been assaulted by a student. 

The officer said he saw the student - later identified as John Young, age 35 - yelling into his cell phone, disturbing the peace, and asked him to keep it down. 

Young reportedly then began yelling at the officer before running toward him and punching him in the face. 

According to police, two bystanders then helped the officer subdue and apprehend Young.

The officer was taken by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital; Young was taken by police to Central Station for charging.
