CCRI in Warwick is on lockdown.
On Tuesday morning, shortly after 9:15 AM, CCRI shared the following:
"Lockdown at the Warwick campus.
Based on location, decide to run, hide, or fight.
Seek shelter, turn off lights, and silence your cell phone.
Wait for all-clear."
CCRI did not release any additional information.
UPDATE: Warwick Police Chief Michael Lima provided the following statement to GoLocal:
"I've been in contact with my Deputy Chief. We had a report of a person entering wooded area off Commonwealth Avenue (backside of CCRI) with what appeared to possible be an object protruding from their backpack.
The object, according to the witness, was similar in appearance to the butt of a firearm. This location the person was seen is on the curtilage of, but not exactly close to, the CCRI property and building.
We have a handful of encampments in the wooded area and are still currently checking the area.
As of this time, the report is unfounded, but the search continues, and neighboring educational institutions have taken precautionary measures."
