Warwick Police announced on Thursday that they arrested a man, following a five-hour lockdown at CCRI and law enforcement response on Tuesday.

CCRI had issued the lockdown after a report of a person entering a wooded area off Commonwealth Avenue (backside of CCRI) with what appeared to “possibly be an object protruding from their backpack,” according to police.

The school community was told, “based on location, decide to run, hide, or fight.”

Police said that there were a handful of encampments in the wooded area and law enforcement searched the scene; the lockdown was lifted Tuesday afternoon after more than five hours.

Later that afternoon, police said they located a backpack matching the description provided by the witness.

"Within the backpack were an airsoft gun and a black pellet rifle, which was the one believed to have been originally seen by the witness which precipitated the response," said police.
