Providence Police announced on Tuesday that two juveniles, aged 12, are now charged with murder and conspiracy to commit felony assault in connection with a January 19, 2026, incident on Manton Avenue. The hearing took place in Family Court, and the two will be charged as juveniles.

Last week, GoLocal was first to report that three 12-year-olds and an 11-year-old were arrested and charged with felonies in the assault of 52-year-old Rony Alfonso.

The juvenile suspects reportedly beat and stomped on Alfonso, who was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with critical injuries. He later died from his injuries.

As GoLocal reported, what is even more heartbreaking is that the victim, Rony, lost his own son just two months earlier in a car crash in Warwick.

Rony’s son, Luis Alfonso, died after a crash early Monday morning, November 10, in Warwick.

According to police, an autopsy was conducted, and the Office of the Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma. Based on these findings, the charges were upgraded.

Police say the two additional juveniles involved in the attack are expected to be arraigned later this week.
