Rony Alonso, 52-years old, was beaten to death allegedly by four children on Monday on Manton Avenue.

He died from those injuries on Thursday at Rhode Island Hospital. GoLocal broke the story of the beating on Wednesday.

The ages of the accused assailants were one 11-year-old and three 12-year-olds. The group will be charged with felonies, but are unlikely to be charged as adults, and it is highly unlikely that the group will be incarcerated, even until their 18th birthday, according to multiple police sources.

But that is only part of the story.

Tragedy Upon Tragedy — Death of His Son

What is even more heartbreaking is that the victim, Rony, lost his own son just two months earlier in a car crash in Warwick.

Rony’s son, Luis Alfonso, died after a crash early Monday morning, November 10th, in Warwick.

Warwick emergency crews responding to the intersection of Airport and Post roads just before 1 AM that day found a car that had crashed into a pole and caught fire.

After extinguishing the flames, police said the driver was found in the front seat and pronounced dead at the scene.

Warwick Police Chief Michael Lima told GoLocal on Friday that it took several days after the crash to confirm Luis Alfonso's identity.
