Checking out Wes Anderson's latest oeuvre was RISD's peripatetic student, James Franco. Photo: Vanessa Lua/Wikipedia.

Although it may seem like RISD student and occasional College Hill boulevardier James Franco is always in about five places at once… he was down in Newport most recently, enjoying the cast-and-crew preview of Wes Anderson's RI-filmed feature, Moonrise Kingdom, at the Jane Pickens Theater. You may recall that last summer, Newport was full to the gills with some of the hottest names in film because of director Anderson's great taste in talent--Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman, to name just a few. Franco was here in RI, taking a week off from filming Seth Rogen's The End of the World in New Orleans to attend the critiques of his Digital + Media final project--which was a plywood house that contains 16 video adaptations from a book of erotic fiction called Fucking James Franco. Franco later raved about the beauty of Newport in the Huffington Post, and also noted that he'd run into Anderson last winter on a train from RI to NYC--how Rhode Island is that?  While Anderson was still in France (Moonrise Kingdom debuted at the Cannes Film Festival), he sent a video message to local crew members and cast, as well as the local kids from Boy Scout Troop 55, which features in the film.

Going full boat: PR maestro George Regan, Mayor Buddy Cianci, and Wicked Tuna's Ralph Wilkins.

Also popping up in Newport last week at The Mooring were reality TV macho men Ralph Wilkins, Dave Carraro, Sandro Maniaci, Bill Monte, Kevin Leonowert, Scott Prentiss and Gregory Chorebanian. The stars of National Geographic's Wicked Tuna came ashore to help PR guru George Regan (of Regan Communications) christen his new 44-foot Jeanneau sailboat, the "PR Princess".  Joining Regan and the fishing boys at Sayer's Wharf to christen the boat was former Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci. We're told Regan will be chartering the boat out this summer and entering some sailing races.  No tuna fishing though... he's leaving that to the pros.

Rolling around Smith and Federal Hills: Food man Guy Fieri. Photo: Guy Fieri.

And guess who was spotted roaming the streets of Providence on two wheels Monday night? None other than Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives megastar Guy Fieri, who's back in town to shoot some Triple D (he's already featured Crazy Burger, Evelyn's Drive-In, Liberty Elm Diner, and Louis Restaurant). The popular Food Network host was biking (yes, bicycling) around town (stopping to Tweet a photo of himself in front of the State House earlier in the day), and when he got to Atwells Avenue, he asked some folks where he should grab a bite. The answer: Mediterraneo Caffe. Respecting the locals, Fieri walked into Mediterraneo around 4pm and stayed until 11pm dining on the Spaghetti Alle Vongole (spaghetti and clams) special. Fieri was a great guest and even hung out to chat with owner Gianfranco Marrocco's dad, who happened to be dining there as well. According to folks on the scene, it turned into a genuine family affair. Welcome back, Guy!
