The Gaspee Days Committee on Thursday announced the Grand Marshal for the annual Gaspee Days Parade - Dean Scanlon, owner of Revolution American Bistro in Cranston.

"The Gaspee Days Committee felt it was important to recognize how much Dean has given of his time and resources to local charities," said Gaspee Days Committee Parade Chair Tracey Miller.

“Dean is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Revolution in Pawtuxet Village. In this time his sense of community and civic leadership has helped to make our village what it is today," Miller added.

Committee's Selection

According to the committee:

"Scanlon’s commitment to the community has been demonstrated throughout his life. Over the past 25 years, his investments in Pawtuxet Village have allowed the area to blossom into one of the state’s most sought-after destinations.

He is a member of the Rotary Club of Warwick, the Central Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, and the Rhode Island Yacht Club, and he is also the proud father of daughter Casey.

Scanlon, who recently added the title of Providence College graduate to his list this past spring, has not stopped growing. Always an entrepreneur, while finishing his college degree he launched two new businesses, That’s A Wrap PVD and the Gaspee Point Canning Company.  With all of this on his plate, Scanlon remains focused on family, friends, and community.

Opening L ’attitude in 1999 Dean Scanlon, in his words, “took a leap of faith in a sleepy little village called Pawtuxet,” when he opened L’attitude in 1999. Scanlon has since rebranded the restaurant as Revolution American Bistro. Scanlon, a lifelong Rhode Islander, has been inspired by the story of the burning of the H.M.S. Gaspee since he was a young child. Scanlon is “grateful for the support and trust the community has placed in me.”

About Parade

This parade season, the communities of Historic Pawtuxet Village, Warwick, Cranston, and many around the state of Rhode Island, will commemorate the 252nd anniversary of the Rhode Island colonists revolting against Great Britain during the revolutionary era.

The Gaspee Days Parade is the culmination of a month-long series of community events run by the all-volunteer Gaspee Days Committee to commemorate the burning of H.M.S. Gaspee in June of 1772. The Parade, along with many other Gaspee Days activities bring together people from across several local communities in Warwick and Cranston, to celebrate their pride in our state’s place in history.

The Parade will be held on Saturday, June 8 at 10:00 am in Historic Pawtuxet Village through Cranston and Warwick.
