Warwick Mayor Frank Picozzi said the Gaspee Days Parade Committee needs to raise about $35,000 -- or the parade could be in jeopardy of being canceled.

Picozzi is asking the community for support in the fundraising effort to enable the parade to take place on June 12.

A GoFundMe account has been set up and so far close to $11,000 has been raised.

“I know just about everyone is struggling financially during the pandemic, but even one dollar could help keep the spirit of the parade alive," said Picozzi.

"Many assume people march in the parade for free, that’s not the case. It takes a lot of money to put this on every year and the Gaspee Days Committee needs our help," he added.
