LECTURE AT LINDEN PLACE: FOUR EAGLES

Thursday, September 12, 7:00 PM

Join us to review the history, legends, and recent discoveries behind ‘The John Howe House’, or ‘The House with the Four Eagles’ as it was called for decades, during a discussion in the Linden Place Ballroom. Last year, the most recent 2-year restoration of the four eagles that grace the four corners of this Federal-style home concluded. Bristol has long appreciated these symbols of national pride and strength; however, they have not always adorned the corner posts of the 1808 Federal Home balustrade. Are they significant? Are they carved wood, replicas, or simple ornaments? Come and find out! Admission is $5, free for Linden Place members.

TAKE A PIECE OF LINDEN PLACE HOME WITH YOU

Saturday, September 14, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Linden Place will host a one-day sale of original architectural pieces from the mansion, ballroom and garage balustrades. Also, for sale will be the original decorative sections of wrought iron fence that graces the front lawn of Linden Place. This sale is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own your very own piece of one of the country’s most revered Federal-style mansions in existence today. All proceeds go to the preservation of Linden Place and each piece is accomplished by a certificate of authentication.

GUIDED SCULPTURE AND GARDENS TOUR

Saturday, September 14, 11:00 AM – 12 PM

Take advantage of late summer weather with a special guided tour focused on the statuary, outbuildings and gardens at Linden Place, the 1810 Federal-style mansion located in downtown Bristol. Explore the historic Linden Place sculpture and rose gardens while you learn the history of the main who developed the property as we see it now, Samuel Pomeroy Colt. Admission is $12, $10 for seniors and students and includes admission to Linden Place Mansion.

SLAVE TRADE WALKING TOUR

Sat, September 21, 11:00 AM & Thurs, September 27, 3:00 PM

Linden Place Mansion will host walking tours of Linden Place Mansion and downtown Bristol, given by Robin Tremblay, focused specifically on Bristol’s DeWolf Family and their involvement in the transatlantic slave trade. Tours begin at Linden Place, the Federal-style mansion built by architect Russell Warren for George DeWolf. The tour then continues through the center of historic Bristol and down to the waterfront on Thames Street, pointing out significant sites tied to Bristol’s lengthy and profitable involvement in the slave trade. The tour ends at the historic DeWolf Tavern, once a DeWolf waterfront warehouse, where tour-goers will enjoy a rum cocktail and ask questions! The tour is $20, $15 for Linden Place members, and includes a complimentary drink at the DeWolf Tavern.

4th Annual Bristol Burger Bash

September 29, 1:00 – 4:00 PM

Linden Place Mansion’s Bristol Burger Bash brings together three elements that make for a fantastic fall afternoon – burgers, beer, and bluegrass! Come sample East Bay’s best burgers all under one roof while enjoying local beers and wines and listening to down-home live bluegrass in the Linden Place ballroom and gardens.

East Bay’s best restaurants will bring their “burger” A-game, serving up mini burgers of all types – imagine beef, turkey, chicken, pork, seafood and more. Presented with sponsor Chomp Kitchen and Drinks, this afternoon of culinary fun is a fundraiser for the preservation and restoration of Linden Place Mansion.

The Bristol Burger Bash happens on Sunday, September 29 from 1pm-4pm. Tickets are $50 and are all-inclusive of food, beverages, and Burger Bash beer glass. Tickets can be purchased through the Linden Place website.
