It's the first May weekend, and on top of May breakfasts, Cinco de Mayo and Kentucky Derby parties, there's tons of fun to be had from one end of the state to the other. Here are the five events you can't afford to miss.

The Circus Comes to Providence

Friday-Monday  This year's Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents DRAGONS, a once in a millennium event that honors The Year of the Dragon. Ringling Bros.® Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson presides over this fantastical celebratory tournament of circus champions that brings together mystic dragon lore with authentic circus feats. Tickets $25, $35 for VIP, $60 for front row, and $90 for Circus Celebrity seats, which include the opportunity to participate in the show.  A $2 facility fee is not included. WaterFire Fête Fundraiser

Friday Kick off the weekend and WaterFire Providence’s season with a fundraiser at Fête! The evening will feature an array of live music from folk, Middle Eastern, indie rock, funk, and electronica followed by block party, DJ Damian Daviid, and fire dancing! Artists for the event include Boo City, Herra Terra, Pongo’s Groove, and more in Fete’s two stage, sofa lined atmosphere. 7pm. $10-$15. $50 VIP. 103 Dike St., Providence. Burn the Floor

Dance may never be this hot again... and it's only May. Burn the Floor at PPAC.

Friday-Sunday Watch award-winning dancers from around the world set the floor on fire with a passionate and beautiful show of grace and skill. Twenty-two talented dancers from England, Italy, South Africa, Australia, Venezuela, and elsewhere come to show their skill under choreographer Jason Gilkison, a World Champion Ballroom and Latin dancer, and guest choreographer and judge of So You Think You Can Dance. Joe Fletcher & The Wrong Reasons

Saturday Check out local up and coming Americana band, Joe Fletcher and The Wrong Reasons. Join the band for a small, intimate show before their big performance at the Newport Folk Festival in July. 7 pm. Sandywoods Center For The Arts, 43 Muse Way, Tiverton. Click here for more information.

Kayak & Paddleboard Demo

Saturday-Sunday Ever want to learn how to kayak or already an avid stand up paddle boarder? Get down to the Annual Kayak and Stand Up Paddleboard Demo this weekend to expand your know-how and have some fun out on the water. Test out over 125 kayaks and stand up paddleboards, talk to representatives, the Kayak Center team, and take advantage of great offers and no RI tax on boats or boards! 10 am-4 pm. Burrillville Annual Family Fair

Saturday Get outside and relax with the family at the 21st Annual Burrillville Family Fair, presented by the town’s Parks & Recreation Department. Learn about the area's nonprofits' available services, or dress like your favorite bear for a “Teddy Bear Parade”, and try for a chance to win a ribbon for biggest, smallest, oldest looking, silliest, or most decorated bear.
