VIDEO: Award-Winning T.F. Green Gives Guidance on Air Travel
Saturday, November 21, 2020
T.F. Green, one of America's most award-winning airports in the United States, is working every day to continue to keep travel safe and convenient.
This year's travel is greatly diminished, but those who may need to travel can be confident that T.F. Green Airport (PVD) and all airlines have made the safety of travelers their top priority with enhanced cleaning and sanitization at airports and on aircraft, said RIAC.

Green Airport was named as one of USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Best Small Airports” for 2020 as well as “Top Five” in Travel + Leisure’s “World’s Best 2020” Awards for Top Domestic Airports. T.F. Green was most recently named 4th “Best Airport” in the U.S. in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.
The Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) expects this year’s holiday travel to be at historic lows given the impact of COVID-19, for those who do plan on holiday air travel, the U.S. Departments of Transportation, Health and Human Services and other federal agencies have established http://www.flyhealthy.gov to offer guidance on how to Fly Healthy this holiday season.
And, while the country is seeing an increase in coronavirus cases, United Airlines and the Department of Defense recently published a landmark study on the safety of commercial air travel that proves the risk of COVID-19 exposure on commercial aircraft is virtually non-existent.
This study was the most comprehensive on cabin airflow done to date and demonstrates that when a passenger is seated and wearing a mask, on average only 0.003% of infected air particles could enter their breathing zone, even when every seat on the plane is occupied. The study provides strong evidence that high-efficiency particulate absorbing (HEPA) filters used on aircraft, coupled with mask wearing and other COVID mitigation and safety measures, make air travel safe.
The federal guidance provided by the U.S. Departments of Transportation (DOT), Health and Human Services (HHS), Homeland Security (DHS), and State, encourages all travelers to be aware of the directives of local health officials to limit non-essential travel and follow quarantine and/or testing rules and provides an overview of every phase of air travel.
