REPORTS: Jet Blue Coming to TF Green

According to reports in both the Wall Street Journal and Boston Globe, Jet Blue will begin to fly out of both Providence and potentially Worcester. Jet Blue's CEO speaking in Boston spoke in detail about the expansion plans.

“I think we’re real interested in adding Providence into the region,” David Barger, CEO of Jet Blue is quoted as saying, “ I can’t give you a timeline.” 

Governor Lincoln Chafee, RIEDC Director Keith Stokes and Providence Economic Development Director had traveled to New York to recruit the airport to the Providence market.

In the past few years the number of air travelers using TF Green has decreased.   Passengers totaled 3.94 million in 2010, continuing a downward trend:

4.33 million passengers in 2009

4.69 million in 2008

5.02 million in 2007

The addition of the high quality, low fare airline would be a boon to the market.
