GoLocal Channel 10 Exclusive Now Confirmed
Thursday, September 22, 2011
As GoLocal first reported on July 12th, Channel 10 has now publically announced that veteran morning show anchor Frank Coletta will have a new addition on the anchor desk.
Starting Monday, September 26th, Barbara Morse Silva will join Frank at the anchor desk each weekday morning beginning at 5am for the NBC 10 Sunrise show. Channel 10 says this move is the latest in a series of advancements that have “created the most experienced morning news team in all of Southern New England seven days a week”.
Morse Silva has a long history of covering health news in the Providence market. She has also been filling in for Coletta when he is off. In fact she was on the air this morning. Morse Silva joined Channel 10 in 1995 and most recently had been anchoring the station’s weekend newscasts. Prior to WJAR, she worked in Indianapolis, Boston and as a general assignment reporter at Channel 6 here in Providence.
Coletta has lead the morning show in the ratings year after year. Morse Silva and Coletta will be joined by meteorologists Gary Ley and Kelly Bates who now share the week-day weather duties and then spilt the weekend weather duties on the Sunrise show with Mario Hilario.
While Coletta is clearly number one – some local media insiders say this move to add Morse Silva is designed to help combat the rise in ratings Channel 12’s morning show has recently seen since new anchors Patrick Little and Danielle North took over. This is not the first time someone has joined Coletta at the anchor desk. You may remember the name Karen Reid. She too shared the news duties but has since moved on and Coletta of course is still there.
NBC 10’s weekday Sunrise show recently celebrated its 26th anniversary on September 9th 2011.
Carpy Moves To Weekend News
Back in July, we also reported that this shuffle in the morning would also mean long-time week day sports anchor Frank Carpano would take over the anchor duties on the weekend since Morse Silva would be moving to the weekday morning slot. Channel 10 has confirmed to GoLocal that move was recently made. "Frank Carpano made his return to the news anchor desk this past weekend. Frank is well-known and well-respected in the community and his newscasts easily won all their time slots." said News Director Chris Lanni.
