Seems that all is forgotten with the new owners of Channel 6 and the Bristol 4th of July Parade Committee.

And that is good news for Rhode Islanders.

After being off the air last year—as we reported here – Channel 6 will broadcast the parade live this year.

WLNE Vice President & General Manager Chris Tzianabos says the event is great for the community and has huge interest in the area. “We will use all of our main talent and have reports in the parade route – building a special set – Alex and Ani is the presenting sponsor and made a significant commitment.”

Bad Moment

Last year, the parade had no live coverage. Channels 10, 12 and 6 all passed on the opportunity to broadcast the parade. It was not a smart move then and for Channel 6 and the new owners to get it back makes sense. Last year, the Parade Committee sent out letters to each station but there were no takers. Full Channel Cable did broadcast it but it was to a limited audience for sure.

The Bristol 4th of July Parade is a huge opportunity for a station to showcase it’s community commitment and press the flesh with viewers. A win all around.

Global Broadcasting who used to own Channel 6 never paid the $10,000 in broadcast rights fees to the Committee and in addition, parade organizers said at the time the station also took $750.00 worth of tickets to the Bristol Parade Ball – and did not pay for that as well.

On TV & Internet

Tzianabos says the station is committed to bringing the even in many forms this year realizing someone just sitting down in front of the TV is from parades of the past. “It will be live on ABC6 and immediately rebroadcast on our D2 – Live Well Network and yes it will be live streamed”.

So a piece of RI history goes hi-tech but at the same stays true to form.
