URI Runs Past Richmond 79-74, Tie For 1st in A-10

The URI Rams men's basketball team (16-5, 8-2 A-10) defeated the (12-11, 5-5 A-10 ) Richmond Spiders 79-74 on Sunday afternoon in Virginia. The win is the Rams' fifth straight and pulls them into a tie for first place in the A-10 with VCU.

The Rams led 53-51 with 7:20 left to play in the game, and Richmond had the momentum. The Spiders had cut their deficit to two points on a couple of occasions previously, and URI had an answer every time to stay in the lead.

Richmond would get as close as three with 20 seconds remaining, but the Rams were able to make a couple of big free throws when they needed to and seal the 79-74 win.
Big time performers
URI was led in the game by E.C. Matthews, who netted 26 points while Hassan Martin followed up with 16 points and a career high 16 rebounds for a double-double.
Richmond was led by Kendall Anthony who poured in 28 points while Terry Allen added 19.
Another big road game coming.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday, February 11 when they visit St. Joseph's. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
