Jared Terrell

The URI Rams (12-8, 4-3 A-10) defeated (11-8, 2-6 A-10) Fordham 79-63 on Wednesday night at the Ryan Center. URI has now won two of their last three games.

URI had their lead cut to one point, 43-42, after a David Pekarek jumper with 15:52 to play in the half. Starting with a layup from Hassan Martin on the next possession, the Rams would go on an 8-1 run to go up 51-43 with 13 minutes to play.

Fordham would cut it to three, 53-50, after two free throws from Joseph Chartouny went in with 11:19 to play. Again, the Rams would respond, this time with back-to-back threes from Christion Thompson and Four McGlynn for a quick 6-2 run to take a 59-52 lead. 

Fordham did not get closer than five points the rest of the way

First Half Run 

URI trailed 13-11 with 14 minutes to play int he first half before back-to-back Jarvis Garrett threes sparked Rhody to a 20 to 7 run, and a 31-20 lead with 6:58 to go in the half. 

Fordham got back into it before the half time buzzer going on a 15-8 run of their own, capped off by a  Mandell Thomas three at the buzzer to set the half time score at 39-35 in favor of URI. 

The Leaders 

URI was led by Jared Terrell who netted a career high 25 points on 10 of 18 shooting from the field. 

Jarvis Garrett followed up with 16 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field, including 4 of 6 from three-point land. 

Next up 

URI returns to action on Saturday, January 30 when they host Saint Joseph's at the Ryan Center. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.

Hassan Martin

Foul trouble limited Hassan Martin to only 18 minutes of action in the game. 

In that time, Martin netted 11 points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field and grabbed 9 rebounds, had 2 steals and blocked one shot. 

In the six games Martin has played since returning from injury, he has reached double figures in five of them.

Crucial Stretch

The Rams are currently 4-3 in the A-10 and 12-8 overall as they enter a stretch in which they will play 3 of their next 5 games at the Ryan Center. 

URI will host Saint Joseph's on Saturday, who they lost to a couple of weeks ago, before playing road games against UMass and La Salle, who URI just beat. 

After that, the Rams come home for a game against George Mason and  Friday night show down with Dayton on February 12. 

After that stretch, the Rams only play two homes games the rest of the season, compared to 4 road games.

Jarvis Garrett

Jarvis Garrett followed up Terrell's performance with 16 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field, including 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. 

Garrett averages 12 points per game for URI and has reached double figures in 7 straight games. 

Garrett also dished out 6 assists and grabbed 2 rebounds in the game.

Hot Shooting

URI was red hot from the field in this game, shooting 51% from the field, 26 of 51, including 50% in the first half. 

From three-point land, URI shot 41%, 10 for 24, led by Jarvis Garrett who made 4 of 6 from beyond the arc. 

This is the seventh time this season in which URI has shot at least 50% from the floor. The Rams are 7-0 in those games. 

The Rams also moved the ball well, recording 15 assists on those 26 made shots.

Jared Terrell

URI was led by sophomore Jared Terrell who poured in a career high 25 points on 10 of 18 shooting from the field. 

So far this season, Terrell has averaged 12 points per game for URI with his previous season high coming against Providence, where he scored 19. 

Terrell also grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.
