It is called the “charity stripe,” but the word has not hit the University of Rhode Island Rams.

The night before, the Rams shot 21-35 from the line and lost to Arizona State University 94-88.

Hit their free throws and the Rams are 2-0 and looking at a top 25 ranking.

Thanksgiving Loss

Fatts Russell led the Rams with 23-points. The Mitchell brothers, transfers from Maryland, again under-performed.

BC Junior guard Wynston Tabbs had 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds to lead BC.

Tabbs, playing his second game after missing 20 months because of a knee injury, shot just 4 of 11 from the floor but got to the free-throw line 10 times, hitting seven.

Steffon Mitchell added 15 points for Boston College (1-1). Rich Kelly gave the Eagles a big boost off the bench, scoring all 11 of his points in the final 10:07. He made two free throws with 25.5 seconds left for the final points of the game.

The Rams fall to 0-2 and BC is now 1-1.

A key sequence came around the two-minute mark as BC, with a 64-60 lead and possession, had to chase the ball into the backcourt. Makai Ashton-Langford rushed up a long 3-point attempt that missed, but Steffon Mitchell had inside position for the offensive rebound.

He scored and was fouled, finishing a three-point play with 1:46 to go.

Five Facts

- Russell's game-high 23 points went  with four steals, three assists and three rebounds. It was the 60th time scoring in double figures for Russell in 98 career games. It also was his 26th career 20-point game.

- Russell also claimed sole possession of fifth place in program history with his first steal of the night. He passed Jared Terrell (170 from 2014-18). Russell needs one more to tie Andre Samuel (175 from 1990-94) for fourth place.

- Transfer senior Jeremy Sheppard finished with 10 points and a career-high six rebounds. All of his scoring came in the second half.

-  The Rams were just 3-for-18 from the arc Thursday.
