URI Basketball Beats Pace 80-65 in Exhibition Game

The University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team cruised past Pace University 80-65 in an exhibition game on Thursday night at the Ryan Center.
The Rams were led by sophomore Fatts Russell, who poured in 19 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the field, while junior Jeff Dowtin added 18 points.

GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTAfter jumping out to an early 12-3 lead, the Rams led 23-20 with 8:06 left to play in the first half after Pace’s Luke McLaughlin made one of two free throws.
From that point, URI took over.
Sparked by a layup from Dowtin and a three from Russell, URI closed the half on a 21-7 run to take a 44-27 lead into the half.
In the second half, Pace would rally and get as close as five points, 46-41, with 14:57 to play following a jumper by Greg Poleon.
Rhode Island would then go on a quick 7-0 run to push their lead to 53-41.
Pace would not get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Next Up
The Rams open the regular season on Tuesday, November 6 when they host Bryant at the Ryan Center.
Game time is set for 7 p.m.
