Team USA Falls, But We Are Still Proud

True form for the US took as they gave up another early goal in the first ten minutes of the match and then decided to start playing. Maybe before the game starts the USA players should all be slapped in the face and told they are down a goal, and then they might have a better start to their games.

The USA usually relies on their athleticism and physicality but Ghana was able to neutralize that a bit with their own.  It seemed the USA’s best chances were as the result of ball possession and tactical passing, not a trademark of past US teams. Thankfully Dempsey continued to be dangerous and got the US a penalty kick, which Donovan narrowly slotted off the post to make it 1-1.

As regular time expired it was another exciting USA game and the first to go into overtime for the world cup. I thought the US would have an advantage the longer the game went because of their fitness level. I was also confident if the game went to a shootout because of Tim Howard between the posts. Ghana had few quality chances throughout the game but they capitalized on them when the time came. The goal in overtime by Ghana was quite impressive. Bocanegra tried to nock the Ghana striker Gyan off the ball but he took the hit and then blasted the ball past Howard. After that the US just seemed out of sorts and couldn’t find the back of the net. Ghana was moving on and the US was heading home.
