Patriots Acquire Wide Receiver Josh Gordon From Cleveland
Tuesday, September 18, 2018
The New England Patriots have acquired troubled Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon for a conditional 5th round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“If Gordon isn’t active for ten games, Patriots get back a late-round pick from Browns,” Schefter said in a tweet.
Prior to the trade with New England, the Browns were planning to release Gordon on Monday.

Gordon has been suspended by the NFL for the majority of the past four seasons due to multiple drug violations.
He was suspended by commissioner Roger Goodell for the entire 2015 and 2016 seasons, and sat out the first 11 games of the 2017 season before coming back to Cleveland for the final five games.
In those games, he caught 18 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown.
He then missed the first three weeks of this past summer’s training camp to undergo counseling and treatment.
After playing 69 snaps in Cleveland’s week one game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he reported to the team’s facility on Saturday complaining of a hamstring injury.
The Browns said they were going to release him.
Gordon on the Field
Gordon was drafted by the Browns in 2012.
In 2013, he led the league with 1,646 yards receiving and nine touchdowns.
In his career, he has played 41 games and hauled in 180 catches for 3,106 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Patriots Wide Receiver Depth
Following the addition of Gordon, the Patriots cut wide receiver Corey Coleman, who they signed last week.
The Patriots wide receiver position now consists of Julian Edelman, after he returns from suspension, Chris Hogan, Josh Gordon, Cordarrelle Patterson, Philip Dorsett, and Bennie Fowler.
