Some key takeaways from this weekend in sports:

- The NBA issued their guidance to players for the upcoming season (not in a bubble) and it states that the players should avoid going to clubs (strip and non-strip).

- There are a number of NFL coaches who should be fired this morning -- Chargers' special teams, Bears' offensive coach, and Jets' defensive coordinator.

- Cris Collinsworth tapes should be used to break terrorists, but the Geneva Convention would likely rule that it is "cruel and unusual" punishment.

- Gonzaga, the #1 team in college basketball, is canceling four games due to the coronavirus.

- PC’s cancellation of the annual state rivalry game is a heartbreaker. See the column on this.

Patriots Wow

The Sunday performance by the New England Patriots was one of the most dominant by an NFL team this season.

The Patriots pounded the Los Angeles Chargers in every aspect of the game, scoring touchdowns two touchdowns on special teams — a punt return and blocking a field goal and returning it for another touchdown.

“That was one of the worst football games I’ve ever been a part of in my 30 years in the National Football League as a player and a coach. That was unacceptable and embarrassing,” said Anthony Lynn, the Chargers coach, in a post-game interview.

The Patriots even the season at 6-6 and are still in the hunt for a wildcard slot.

Not a Good Time To Forget to Bring the A-Game

The New England Revolution put together one of the most unexpected runs MLS Cup Playoffs with a series of big wins as the last seeded team. They seemed a team of destiny, but on Sunday, they failed to bring their A-game for their battle against Columbus Crew SC in the Eastern Conference Final.

After beating the heavily favored Philadelphia Union and Orlando City SC, the Revs seemed a step slow and lost the 50-50 balls that had fueled their playoff run.

"On the day Columbus was the better team. I think they deserved to win the game," Revs Coach Bruce Arena said. "Give them credit for the goal they created, just better at anticipating plays than we were. I thought on the day in the middle third of the field they were good. Not that they did anything that goes in the highlight reel but they won tackles, they anticipated plays and they were a little sharper in the middle of the field.”
