Hendricken and Narragansett Win State Baseball Crowns

Hendricken won its 18th state championship in program history Thursday night.

The Division I and II baseball state championships were decided on Thursday night. Hendricken won two straight against North Kingstown to secure its second straight Division I state title, while Narragansett beat Westerly in a clean sweep to claim the Division II state title.

Division I

After Hendricken ace and Rhode Island Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year Mike King shutout the Skippers in game one of the title series 3-0 Wednesday night, the Hawks held on in game two for a 7-4 title clinching win.

With Thursday night's victory, the Hawks won its second straight Division I state championship and the 18th state championship overall in program history.

Hendricken senior Eddie Markowski won the Chet Nichols Award for finals Most Valuable Player, as Markowski was a threat at the plate for the Hawks in the title series. Markowski belted a home run in game three of Hendricken's semifinal series against Johnston to clinch a spot in the championship series.

Division II

After Narragansett's Zach McKanna threw a complete-game no hitter in a 9-0 Mariners win in game one Wednesday night, Narragansett beat Westerly with a convincing 7-2 victory Thursday night to win the state championship.

Thursday night's win marked the first ever baseball state championship in program history for the Mariners. After falling down 2-0 early Thursday night, the Mariners overcame adversity, rattling off seven unanswered runs to secure the title.
