Bryant’s Second Half Rally Falls Short, Lose 73-71 to Rutgers
Friday, November 08, 2019
The Bryant University men’s basketball team rallied from 16-points down in the second half, but fell to Rutgers 73-71 on Thursday night in New Jersey.
“Two years ago, the guys came down here and lost by 30. Here we are two years later. We're trying to build something. Had a shot to win it at the buzzer. I think the program is moving in the right direction. My guys fought their tails off. I couldn't be prouder of those guys,” said Bryant head coach Jared Grasso after the game.
Rutgers opens the season with a 1-0 record, while Bryant falls to 0-2.

“I told them in the locker room if they compete like that all year, we have a chance to do special things. This team is just getting to know each other. We have seven, eight new guys. Our best basketball is way ahead of us,” added Grasso.
Bryant’s Rally Falls Short
After trailing by just eight points at the half, Bryant found themselves down by 16, 52-36, with 15 minutes to play in the game.
That’s when the Bulldogs began their rally.
Bryant cut the deficit to 57-45 with 12 minutes to play in the game.
The Bulldogs would continue their rally by knocking down a plethora of threes, including one by Charles Pride to make the score 67-62 with 2:58 to play.
With 50 seconds left, Pride would knock down another three to cut Bryant’s deficit to two, 73-71.
Bryant’s Ayo Dada secured a jump ball with 27 seconds remaining and the arrow in Bryant's favor, setting up a final offensive possession.
A game-tying layup attempt from redshirt-junior Hall Elisias was blocked out of bounds off Rutgers, and off a baseline inbound with four seconds remaining, Adam Grant's three-point attempt to win the game missed.
Grant finished the game with 23 points, while Pride added 22.
