Bryant Baseball Wins Conference Championship

Warwick native Robby Rinn delivered a clutch 3-run triple in the 12th inning, and the Bryant Bulldogs baseball team captured its second consecutive Northeast Conference Chapionship with a thrilling 6-2 victory over Sacred Heart.

Sacred Heart erased a 2-0 Bulldogs lead in the 8th inning, but Bryant's Trevor Lacosse came on and pitched 4 and 1/3 scoreless innings of relief from that point on and earned the win.  Glendale native Vaughn Hayward was untouchable early on for Bryant, pitching 6 and 1/3 scorelss innings in the start.

Bryant earns a trip to the NCAA Tournament with the win (the NEC gets one automatic bid).  The NCAA selection show is on Monday at noon on ESPNU.

Bryant has now won 6 NEC Championships this Spring, a new conference record for one league member.  The Bulldogs' Craig Schlitter was named the Tournament MVP after tossing a complete game shutout on Friday against Central Connecticut.
