McGonagill, the Ivy league’s top scorer, netted 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, including 3-of-6 from behind the three-point arc. He also had a career high five steals.

Bears’ junior forward Rafael Maia (Sao Paulo, Brazil) put together a complete performance with 16 points, including 13 points in the second half, while grabbing a game high nine rebounds. He connected on 5-of-8 field goals and 6-of-7 free throws.

Freshman guard Norman "JR" Hobbie (Spring Lake, NJ) exploded for 11 of his 14 points in the first half, hitting 4-of-5 treys overall for the Bears.

For the second straight game, junior forward Dockery Walker (Magnolia, DE) played a big role for the Bears, coming off the bench to score 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. Walker missed all of last year following knee surgery and seems to have mended well in Brown’s opening three games.

The Bears had a decided advantage on the backboards, out-rebounding the Pioneers by a 32-22 margin. Brown also sizzled from the field, hitting 33-of-59 shots (55-percent) and 7-of-13 treys (54-percent)

The high scoring Pioneers, who scored 118 points in their last outing vs. Holy Cross, were led by Louis Montes, who scored a game high 23 points, and Chris Evans, who added 23 points.

Brown jumped out to a 20-9 lead in the game’s first 12 minutes following a trey by Hobbie at the 12:01 mark. The Pioneers rallied to lead by as many as three points in the half, 35-32,with 3:39 left in the half on two free throws by Evans.

The Bears out-scored the Pioneers 6-1 to end the half and grab a 38-36 lead on a McGonagill lay-up with one second remaining.

Brown had the better of play in the second half, and took the lead for good, 46-45, on a lay-up by Maia at the 14:44 mark.

Head coach Mike Martin’s Brown team returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, November 19, traveling to Lowell. Mass., for its first ever meeting with UMass-Lowell. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
