Another Surprise From Tiger Woods
Thursday, July 21, 2011
The decision was surprising. The timing, curious. But, then again, nothing that happens with Tiger Woods these days seems to make much sense.
We learned Wednesday that the man who was once the world’s greatest golfer had fired his long-time caddie and personal friend Steve Williams.
Woods released a statement on his website saying, “I want to express my deepest gratitude to Stevie for all his help, but I think it’s time for a change. Stevie is an outstanding caddie and a friend and has been instrumental in many of my accomplishments. I wish him great success in the future.”

And for a player when he’s not playing at his best for an extended period of time, it’s not uncommon to change caddies, coaches, psychologists or bring on a psychologist. We all know the business. I have no problem being fired. But I’m disappointed with the timing of it.”
Apparently Woods told Williams of his dismissal a few weeks ago but the two decided to not make the announcement public out of respect for Adam Scott so that Williams would not be a distraction to him.
You would think that with all of the turmoil Woods is dealing with that he might want the stability of having Williams on his bag and as his confidant, but that apparently is not the case.
Who knows? Maybe Tiger wants to bottom out completely before attempting to rise from the ashes, so-to-speak.
Woods has not won an event since before the sex scandal that ended his marriage almost two years ago. In addition, he has been plagued by knee and Achilles tendon injuries which have prevented him from playing most of this year. His name has also been linked with Dr. Anthony Galea, a Canadian doctor who pleaded guilty to smuggling HGH into the United States. He has undergone a major swing change with a new coach and now he has fired his long-time caddie.
I suppose that if Tiger ever does make it back to the top, that will be one heck of a resurrection.
