PC Friars Upset #20 UConn

Providence College men's basketball upset the #20 University of Connecticut Huskies at the Hartford Civic Center on Saturday. 

The Friars won 57-53 in an emotional and physical game, having led by as many as 15 points in the second half.

But the game was much in question until the final seconds.

PC is now 11-1 on the season.

The Friars Al Durham grabbed a critical rebound with just 2:11 in the game and PC up seven points.

Then, Durham intentionally elbowed Tyrese Martin, the transfer from URI, in the head. That sparked  UConn cut the lead to 55-53.

Durham redeemed himself with a layup putting PC up 57-53 under a minute.

Providence missed a bundle of free throws and the Huskies missed a slew of open shots in that final minute.

A.J. Reeves led the Friars in scoring with 16 points, Ed Croswell added 11, and Nate Watson added ten.

Noah Horchler was 1-7 from the field and missed three free throws.

 

Game Highpoints

Reeves had 12 points in the first half and Croswell added 7 on the inside.

UConn did have five blocks on the Friars in the first half alone.

The Friars upped their lead to 37-22 early in the second half.

That increased to a 19-3 run.

Bynum hit a critical 3-pointer at 8:20 in the second half to push the Friar lead to  50-41.
