The Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation (KDMF) will host their 17th Annual Run/Walk on Sunday, June 12. The race will begin and end at Narragansett High School  with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. The 5K will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Awards and prizes will be given to the first three male and female runners in several age divisions ranging from 10 to 70 years-old as well as the wheelchair division.

“This year, we are providing schools and youth organizations the opportunity to participate in the road race as a team event. We are hoping that this opportunity will create increased participation amongst children and young adults. Awards will be given for the team with the most participants and the best overall average team time,"  said KDMF Executive Director, John DeCubellis.

In October of 1999, Katie DeCubellis and her best friend's mother, Marsha Bowman, were killed by a drunk driver. Katie was just 13 years-old.

Over the last 16 years, thousands of runners and walkers of all levels and age groups have helped keep Katie's life shining and have reminded drivers to be responsible.

“When we first began the Road Race, it was designed to bring the community together to celebrate Katie's life and keep her memory and spirit alive. Now, although we still have those same objectives, the Race has evolved into in event which also celebrates the accomplishments and initiatives of the KDMF. However, the challenge is to keep the race thriving and growing as we enter our 17th year! Of course, this could never happen without the support and generosity of all of our sponsors and participants. We are blessed and extremely grateful for everyone's support," said DeCubellis.

To date, the KDMF has awarded over $350,000 in scholarships, prizes and donations
