#16 PC Blown Out by Marquette

Oh, life in the BIG EAST.
The No. 16/17 Providence College men's basketball team was beaten by the Marquette Golden Eagles, 88-56, on Tuesday in Milwaukee.
The Friars fell to 13-2 overall and 3-1 in BIG EAST play.

The Friars shot just 32% from the field and had 14 turnovers.
The defeat ends the Friars' eight-game winning streak.
During Tuesday night’s game, graduate student Nate Watson surpassed former teammate Kyron Cartwright for the most career games played in program history (137). Watson finished with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds in the game. Graduate student Al Durham led the team with 16 points.
GAME STORY
FIRST HALF:
The Friars turned the ball over on two of their first three possessions. Marquette jumped out to an early 6-0 lead.
Justin Minaya made it into the scoring column first for the Friars with a three-point basket from the left-wing.
At the 13:31 mark, Marquette's Darryl Morsell buried a three-pointer. The Golden Eagles were on a 10-0 scoring run and had their first double-digit lead, 18-6. The Friars had not scored in over three minutes and used their first team timeout.
Leading up to the 7:49 timeout, the Friars found a rhythm and went on an 8-0 scoring run to narrow the gap to four. Alyn Breed (Powder Springs, Ga.) capped off the run by forcing a turnover and taking the ball coast-to-coast for the layup.
With the Friars gaining momentum, Marquette responded and took control with a 20-0 run after the timeout. The Golden Eagles' lead expanded to 24 points, 42-18.
During the Golden Eagles' scoring run, the Friars were held scoreless for over seven minutes. Durham ended the drought from the free-throw line with 0:38 left in the half.
Brycen Goodine added a second-chance layup in the final seconds of the half. The Friars had missed their previous 10 shots from the field.
Marquette's defense dominated the first half, forcing 10 turnovers and scoring 15 points off turnovers.
The Friars faced a 20-point deficit at halftime. Marquette led 42-22.
Providence shot 7-25 (28.0%) from the field, 2-7 (28.6%) from three, and 6-9 (66.7%) from the free-throw line.
Marquette shot 15-29 (51.7%) from the field, 5-11 (45.5%) from three, and 7-7 (100%) from the free-throw line.
SECOND HALF:
Watson finished in the paint on back-to-back possessions to open the second half for the Friars.
The Golden Eagles held a 23-point advantage, 56-33, at the first timeout of the half.
Oso Ighodaro and Kam Jones each brought a spark for Marquette in a 12-2 scoring run, which concluded with 12 minutes to play.
With 6:41 remaining, Durham knocked down a three-pointer to end the team's cold streak from behind the arc. Marquette maintained their sizable lead, 75-49.
At the 2:04 mark, the Golden Eagles attained their largest lead of the game, 37 points. The score was 88-51.
Ed Croswell reached double figures with a second-chance layup with 0:12 to play. Croswell finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Two players finished in double figures for the Friars, in Croswell (11) and Durham (16).
- Justin Lewis led the way for the Golden Eagles with a double-double, posting game-highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds.
- Tyler Kolek contributed a game-high nine assists and Kur Kuath had a game-high seven blocks for the Golden Eagles.
- Four players finished in double figures for the Golden Eagles.
- The loss ended an eight-game win streak for the Friars.
NEXT GAME:
The Friars head home to take on the St. John's Red Storm on Saturday, January 8 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is set for 12:00 p.m. on FS1.
The Friars are 54-64 all-time and 28-24 at home versus St. John's. Last season, the Red Storm won both games in the season series.
