Asian Republican Coalition Endorses Fung

The Asian Republican Coalition (ARC) has endorsed Republican candidate Allan Fung for Governor.

“Mayor Fung believes in creating and building upon strong relationships within the comprehensive Asian American community in Rhode Island and across the United States,” said ARC Chairman John J. Ying.  “We are pleased to see that the Mayor is pushing for an agenda based on education, merit, opportunity, personal freedom, entrepreneurship and family. Allan’s parents came to the United States to pursue the American Dream and Allan is living proof that hard work and determination pay off,” continued Ying.

Pro Con-Con FB Page Launches

The Pro Rhode Island Constitutional Convention has launched a Facebook page.

The first post stated, "44 state governors have the power of a line-item veto, but not in RI. Giving our Governor the power to veto specific pieces of a budget makes the Governor's office more powerful, makes RI look like most other states and provides a vital check and balance on our unaccountable legislature. We can get this if you vote YES on #3 - should we hold a Constitutional Convention?"

Hodgson On Mandatory Reporting of On-Campus Sexual Assaults

Republican candidate for Attorney General Dawson Hodgson has released a statement on reporting on-campus sexual assaults.

"Academic institutions dealing with reports of sexual assault on campus must report those allegations to the police," said Hodgson.

“Law enforcement officials are equipped to investigate, evaluate, and prosecute these crimes in a manner that Universities simply are not,” Hodgson continued. “Allowing colleges – no matter how well intentioned- to determine the course of action puts sexual assault victims at risk.”

RenewRI Critical of GA's Handling of Con-Con

RenewRI is critical of the way the General Assembly's Preparatory Commission and the Secretary of State's office have handled the voter information process for a constitutional convention.

In a press release, RenewRI wrote, "Rhode Island citizens have been shortchanged by the General Assembly’s Preparatory Commission for a Constitutional Convention and especially the Secretary of State’s office in adequately presenting information on Question 3 (“Shall there be a convention to amend or revise the constitution?”) for consideration by voters on the November 4 ballot."

"Voters are done a disservice when the Commission carries out its responsibilities in a hurried and perfunctory manner and then the Secretary of State presents an incomplete, slanted explanation of “ what would approval of this question do?” in the Voter handbook that voters are meant to consult before casting their votes.," continued RenewRI.
