The Scoop: New GOP Candidate for Congress

Dr. Stephen Skoly will announce his candidacy for the United States House of Representatives at a public kickoff event on Wednesday in Cranston.

 

Skoly is a dentist.

The campaign said in a release, "Supporters, community members, and local leaders are invited to attend as Dr. Skoly shares his vision for the future of the 2nd Congressional District in Rhode Island and outlines key priorities for the campaign."

 

"I'm excited to officially launch this campaign surrounded by the community that has shaped and inspired me," said Dr. Stephen Skoly. "This campaign is about listening, working together, and delivering real results for the people of the 2nd Congressional District.”

 

Skoly joins Vic Mellor, who has already announced he is running as a Republican in the 2nd District.

 

The winner in the GOP primary faces Seth Magaziner, who presently represents the 2nd District but lives in the 1st District. Magaziner had repeatedly claimed he was moving into the district, but then reversed course.
