Amazing New Exhibit By Providence Artist Mary Beth Meehan

Art is back and this exhibit is another reminder of the amazing talent in our community.

Read Michael Rose's review:

Over the last year, the WaterFire Arts Center has become a premier setting for stunning exhibitions. The venue’s latest show celebrates the remarkable capacity of photography to celebrate everyday people and build community. On view through August 22, WaterFire is mounting an excellent survey of large-scale photographs by Providence artist Mary Beth Meehan. The exhibition, appropriately titled Eye to Eye, consists of sensitive and beautiful portraits capturing sitters drawn from regions throughout the United States. Although technology has rendered the world image-sodden, Meehan’s portraits are an antidote to the alienation common in today’s culture.

The famed French street photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson spoke of the importance of “the decisive moment” in making images. For Meehan, great photography can more readily be equated with the decisive individual. Regular people who will not find themselves on magazine covers or as models in advertising campaigns are Meehan’s subjects of choice. She elevates her sitters to the status of popular icons in form and treatment, signifying her care and respect for their diverse and unique experiences.

The Providence Pizza That Had a Two-Month Waitlist is Now Available Again

Providence’s Hotline Pizza made headlines back in May, when GoLocal reported it was so popular, it had a two-month waitlist.

Moreover, anyone who wanted to try the Detroit-style pizza was out of luck, as Hotline closed its waitlist for ordering.

Now, it’s back.

Return of Popular Pizza

On Friday, Hotline announced its summer schedule as follows. Orders can only be made through Hotline's social media.

Starting Wednesday July 14th we will be serving pizza Wednesday through Saturday from 4-8pm.

Menu will be posted each day and we will start accepting orders through dm at 1pm for pick ups that night. Orders sent before 1pm will not be answered.

We only do 30 pizzas a day first come first serve. We will not be answering dm’s once they are sold out and we’ll let you know if they do!

There will be a 3 pizza per person limit & half and half pies are always available. We are not trying to be confusing this is just what works for us to provide consistency and work happily. The important stuff! Much love, Hotline.

And Hotline lovers loved it — the post racked up over a thousand likes and a hundred comments in just over twelve hours.

Providence Is Not Safe

Shootings of 14 year-olds, murders, illegal ATV gangs, and an overall sense of lawlessness.

On Wednesday afternoon, Kate Nagle, GoLocal’s News Editor was struck in front of her home by a motorcycle traveling in excess of an estimated 50 MPH. The motorcyclist neither slowed nor stopped after striking Nagle.

Prices Are Going Up and Up

The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics reported Tuesday that prices for goods and services, excluding food and energy, shot up 0.9% in June on a month-over-month basis.

"Why it matters," reported Axios. "That’s an uptick from May’s monthly change of 0.7%. Economists were expecting an increase of 0.4%.

"The higher-than-expected reading will rekindle debates about whether inflation is truly temporary," Axios continued. "Investors largely believe elevated levels of inflation will be transitory, as the Fed reiterated in its meeting last month."

Breaking Down Numbers

Including energy and food prices, the headline Core Consumer Price Index figure shows a 0.9% monthly increase, compared to a 0.6% uptick in May.

On a yearly basis, June prices were shot up to 5.4%, compared to the 5% change in May.

Prices are 4.5% higher compared to last year, the highest annual increase in nearly 30 years. That's also a pickup from the 3.8% year-over-year figure reported a month ago.

Consumer expectations for inflation over the coming year reached their highest level ever, according to a survey released Monday by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Political Polarization Is Now Threatening Our Economy

One of the world's top rating agencies has sustained the United State's top credit rating, but issues warnings about the economic and political future of the country.

Fitch affirms the United States at 'AAA' rating, but gives America a "negative" outlook due to growing federal debt and political polarization.

This is an unprecedented rating report.

The rating agency, which generally focuses nearly exclusively on the financial performance and long-term outlook, raises significant concerns about the state of America's political governance.

"The failure of the former president to concede the election and the events surrounding the certification of the results of the presidential election in Congress in January, have no recent parallels in other very highly rated sovereigns. The redrafting of election laws in some states could weaken the political system, increasing divergence between votes cast and party representation," writes Fitch.

Bi-Partisan Irresponsibility

It is good to know that the pathetic behavior of Tucker Carlson is matched by an equally irresponsible Democrat.

One addendum to Rob Horowitz's highly critical column of Fox News and other hyper irresponsible talking heads who are trying to convince Americans not to get vaccinated -- Horowitz forgot Democrat anti-vaxxer Robert Kennedy, Jr.

Irish Central writes, "Renowned anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has come under fire for targeting the African-American community with a vaccine misinformation documentary. "
