Sen. Archambault Wins "Excellence in Advocacy Award"

Senator Stephen Archambault
Senator Stephen Archambault received the “Excellence in Advocacy by an Elected Official” award by the National Council for Behavioral Health at the group’s conference this week.

“The National Council on Behavioral Health has helped so many people who suffer from mental illness or addiction. It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized by such a renowned organization. Between 7 and 10 percent of all law enforcement calls involve a person with mental illness. This presents a tremendous challenge to our law enforcement officials. And this law will make certain that they possess the skills necessary not only to recognize mental health problems and deal with them accordingly, but to ensure the personal safety of the officer in what could potentially be a volatile situation,” said Archambault.

Archambault was honored due to the passage of legislation that requires training for law enforcement officers on mental health and substance abuse emergencies.
