RI Young Republicans Call on Foulkes to Donate Bucci’s $500 Campaign Contribution to MADD

Maria Bucci, advisor to Helena Foulkes' campaign calling the East Greenwich police officer "a dick" among many insults

The Rhode Island Young Republicans are calling on Democratic gubernatorial candidate Helena Foulkes to donate the $500 campaign donation she received from Cranston politico Maria Bucci to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

“The Rhode Island Young Republicans are not surprised to see more of the same behavior from Helena Foulkes that Rhode Islanders have come to expect under Governor Dan McKee — a disappointing lack of accountability and leadership among those closest to her, including her donors,” said the group.

GoLocal first reported Bucci’s arrest by East Greenwich Police, which took place early last Thursday morning.

And, GoLocal was first to secure the police body camera footage of the incident.

Just hours after Cranston Democratic City Committee Chair Maria Bucci was arrested for a DUI — during which she asked police, “Do you know who I am?” — GoLocal unveiled that Helena Foulkes was campaigning with Bucci, one of her donors and campaign advisors. This decision raises serious questions about Foulkes’ judgment and whether she is willing to hold people within her own political circle accountable, or if she will remain beholden to her donors.

“Public safety, personal responsibility, and respect for the law aren’t abstract principles,” said Ken Naylor, chairman of the Rhode Island Young Republicans. “They are basic expectations for anyone seeking executive leadership in our state. For far too long, political insiders and donors have protected one another instead of holding each other accountable in Rhode Island. Leadership is not just about what you say on the campaign trail — it is about the judgment you show through your actions when it matters most.”

The Rhode Island Young Republicans issued a closing question to the Foulkes campaign that Rhode Islanders deserve an answer to:

Will Helena Foulkes show leadership and accountability by donating Maria Bucci’s $500 contribution to Mothers Against Drunk Driving?

Bucci can be heard telling the police officer:

Why are you embarrassing me?

You know who I am, though, right?

I think this is abuse.

How old are you?

You’re recording this right to embarrass me online.

Do you want me to get caught? What are you doing?

I am going to tell you what, my nephew is law enforcement, my uncle is law enforcement. You want to embarrass me. I am an old lady.

After the officer asked Bucci if she was willing to conduct a walk and turn test, she said: “Not really, but I will do it for your entertainment only.”

Bucci continued:

I hope I don’t raise a kid like you.

If I was a black human…I feel bad for the people who are not in my position.

Call my husband and call the Attorney General [Peter Neronha] and everyone else in town.

This is disgusting

If I was a black person I would be arrested.

You’re a dick. You’re a loser. How old are you?

I hope they arrest your mother, too. You’re gross. My whole family is in law enforcement.

I F@@ken can’t stand it.

I didn’t even drink you, asshole.
