Providence GOP Elects New Leadership

The Providence GOP has elected new leadership. David Talan and William Ricci were elected Co-Chairmen of the Providence Republican City Committee (PRCC) at its quadrennial reorganization meeting that was held earlier this week.

No Republican has been elected to office since the 1980s in Providence.

Talan is a retired computer systems analyst and has run both for Mayor of Providence and City Council in Ward 8.

He is a “long-time community activist, he is President of the Reservoir Triangle Neighborhood Association, and is a past-President and 45-year coach in the Elmwood Little League. Talan is also the Second Vice Chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Party.”

According to the Party, Ricci works in the health insurance industry and he has been Secretary of the Rhode Island Republican Party since 2015.

He has worked in various capacities on many state and local campaigns, and is a past candidate himself. He is actively involved in the Providence community, as the longtime audio coordinator for WaterFire Providence, and as volunteer coordinator for the Providence Preservation Society.

Talan and Ricci pledged “to work together and be a visible and active loyal opposition, for everything that is happening in Providence”. They said that “to build PRCC membership throughout all 15 Wards in the City, they will be reaching out to all of Providence’s 6,808 registered Republican voters.” They will be going out into all 25 neighborhoods in the City, to see people who have never met a real, live Republican before.

Talan said, “We will be offering constructive alternatives on city finances and the Mayor’s proposal to sell the water supply system. We will provide good ideas on how to improve the city’s schools, and to bring back neighborhood schools for parents who choose this option. We will comment on the heavy-handed leadership of the City Council, and on out-of-touch proposals by progressive Providence legislators.”

Ricci added, “We will regularly comment on the City’s need to provide decent services, and to protect the safety and quality of life of all Providence residents.”

Talan and Ricci said that they would be issuing a joint “Republican Response” to the Mayor’s upcoming State of the City speech. Additionally, the GOP leaders will work together to recruit candidates to run for all 22 State Legislature seats in Providence in 2020, and will provide training and assistance to them.

The other officers elected by the PRCC are:

Vice-Chair of Operations – Russell Hryzan

Vice-Chair of Fundraising – Ann Clanton

Secretary – Anna Santana

Assistant Secretary – Eduardo Garcia

Treasurer – Ronald Iacobbo

Assistant Treasurer – Bijan Shadravan
