New Solomon Ethics Violations Alleged by Providence City Council Candidate Long

Providence City Council candidate Michael Long has announced he intends to file a new ethics complaint against City Council President and Mayoral candidate Michael Solomon, following an original complaint filed two weeks ago -- unless Solomon "amends the reports and apologizes to the residents of Providence", Long said.
The initial complaint by Long came on the heels of a GoLocal investigation into the annual Rhode Island Ethics Commission filings by Solomon, which showed incomplete or incorrect information filed for multiple years.
Now, Long says additional information has been omitted from the amended reports, prompting the additional complaint.

New Oversights Alleged
Long said that the new issue pertains to Solomon's recently amended financial declarations, and specifically the property that stood at 555 Park Avenue, which Long said Solomon did amend and include as property under the "Real Estate" section of the annual ethics disclosures for 2005 through 2013 -- but did not include under the "Family Debt" section in the financial statements.
Citing the nature of the business at the location -- a smoking paraphernalia shop before the building burnt down -- Long said, "This is not the behavior of a conscientious and ethical leader, but due to the nature of the business that he collected rent from, I understand why he would not want this property documented as needed on his yearly financial statements."
Long said that he intends to file another complaint with the Ethics Commission unless Solomon "amends the yearly financial statements yet again, and also apologizes to to the residents and business owners of the City of Providence for being unethical and dishonest."
Long also said that Solomon should have paid off his outstanding PEDP loan from the City of Providence dating back to 1988, contending that Solomon has "used his clout in the capital city in order to make the bare minimum interest payments."
"Mr. Solomon could have easily repaid the PEDP loan by now, and his refusal to do so shows that he does not care about the growth and development of Providence," said Long. "The only person that Mr. Solomon cares about is himself, and if he truly cares about the City of Providence, he will publicly apologize for his transgressions."
