Former President Donald Trump

I supported Donald Trump. I am a conservative who believes in limited government, free enterprise and individual responsibility. I donated significantly to Trump/Pence. I overlooked Mr. Trump's character flaws and narcissistic behavior, preferring him as a "blunt instrument" to the looming threat of socialism.

I made a serious mistake.

This growing uh-oh feeling was brought home to me and cemented when I viewed the events of January 6, 2021.  The shouts of "Hang Mike Pence" were not an idea of the left or BLM or Antifa. It came from Trumpism. It came from the belly of angry Trump supporters generally on my side. That was the last straw.

The following comment came from an article in a left-leaning diatribe but there is a great deal of truth in this lefty’s view of Trump. The author writes:

"But Trumpism is, at its core, anger. “Hang Pence! Hang Pence!”  “Where’s Mike Pence?” “Where’s Mike Pence?” “Where’s Mike Pence?” It was a truly chaotic scene. “Stop the steal,” blended with “Where’s Mike Pence?!”

It was no accident the mobs were looking to lynch Pence. Trump had been for days setting up his loyal lieutenant to either break the law or pay the consequences of his wrath. “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our country and our Constitution, giving states a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify,” Trump tweeted. “USA demands the truth!”

Just llke that, Trump used his power to turn the trusted Pence into a traitorous scoundrel who had to be disposed of as an example to others in order to keep the alternative reality where people could live and die so that he could find a way to remain in power.

I will continue to be a conservative, but I will refuse to support Donald Trump. He is a flawed character. I guess we all are, but Trump's flaws are extremely dangerous.  Anyone who would suggest the hanging of Mike Pence and charge the nation’s capital is un-American. Period.

Trump should have directly addressed this and denounced it. There is so much he should have done while we all know he was glued to the TV. Trump revealed himself to me as unworthy of his office. I apologize to the many family and friends who could not understand my support for this man.

All I can say is that I despise socialism and statism so much that my judgment was clouded. You were right and I was wrong.
