Having Said That by John DePetro

If you think the oil spill in the gulf is a disaster, check the latest Rasmussen poll out for governor 2010 and Attorney General Patrick Lynch. The Lynch campaign is like the oil spill in the gulf: the situation is a disaster that keeps getting worse by the day. Lucky for Patrick that Victor Moffitt and Ken Block are not running as Democrats or he might be even lower than his 19%.
Perhaps Patrick “the community cries out for justice” Lynch has realized maybe it was not a good idea getting his girlfriend a job with the mayor of Central Falls for 20 hours a week at $35,000. Or maybe it was his “see no evil” approach at the state landfill, where $75 million was “misspent.” I am sure his involvement with the Mayor of Central Falls, who is under a federal probe, is not exactly a big fundraising mechanism.
Lynch arrived on the scene in ‘03 as Rhode Island Attorney General, after his brother Billy cleared the field of any real competition (notice how many candidates there are for A.G. now that democrats can really run for the office).
GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTAfter the Station night club fire, Patrick Lynch made it very clear he had no intention of enforcing the law, just an interest in cutting political deals with the powers of West Warwick to further his political career. He was always ready to fight with LNG and the dreaded paint companies, however he never seemed curious why it cost ten grand to board up a house in Central Falls.
The Attorney general seems surprised he is doing poorly in the polls, yet apparently they are not polling the late night crowd at Kartabar on Thayer Street (a Lynch hangout). He is fond of saying he is glad to “start the conversation,” yet in eight years never has really said anything.
At this point, Lynch seems more likely to opt out of the race than get beat by General Treasurer Frank Caprio in a primary. Lynch is fond of saying that his office is “unpopular,” yet he seems to be the one who is unpopular.
Patrick Lynch decided to take every free trip offered to him (Taiwan, Vegas, New Orleans to name a few) instead of actually showing up five days a week on South Main Street and is now paying the price. Lynch could be running a campaign as someone who is a proven fighter for Rhode Island; instead, Patrick Lynch has proven to be everything wrong with politics in Rhode Island.
