For days, GOP second district congressional candidate Allan Fung repeatedly refused to answer questions about a weekend visit from House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy.

The visit was widely criticized by Democratic opponents.

Democrat Sarah Morgenthau slammed Fung for the McCarthy visit.

“Allan Fung is rolling out the red carpet for Kevin McCarthy and his radical far-right agenda, proving once again he is out-of-touch with the voters of the Second District,” said Morgenthau campaign manager Bryan McNamara.

“Rhode Islanders are looking for a Congresswoman ready to deliver results to curb inflation, lower costs, protect our environment, and deliver jobs right here in the Ocean State, not another career politician looking to toe the party line,” Morgenthau said. “With Roe v. Wade repealed and our fundamental rights under attack, I draw the best contrast with Allan Fung, both as a woman and as the only candidate with experience delivering results in Washington.”

On Monday Night Fung Issues Statement:

Over the weekend, I welcomed Leader Kevin McCarthy to Rhode Island for his first visit.  I introduced him to business owners of all political persuasions - including Democrats and Independents - who told him straight out that for the first time in their lives they were going to vote Republican because the policies that have pushed inflation to 40-year highs are absolutely killing their businesses - their American dream.

I’ve been clear about how in representing the District first and foremost, I won’t always be with the mainstream of the party on certain issues. The Leader expects nothing less than to put my constituents first, and said publicly he’s going to make sure I'm on the most important committees to do the most good for those of us here at home.

When I'm in Congress, I'll work with anyone to get the job done for Rhode Island. It's time to lift everyone up here in Rhode Island, and I'm going to work really hard across all party lines and across ideological spectrums to work for you. I ask you to join me as we take our success from Cranston to the halls of Congress.
