Solomon also ran for Mayor both in 2014 and again announced he was running in 2021, but ultimately dropped out of the race.

In the 2014 Democratic primary for Mayor, Jorge Elorza garnered 11,051 votes to Solomon’s 9,870 — 48.7% to 43.5% to win the Democratic primary. Elorza went on to beat Vincent “Buddy” Cianci in the general election.

GoLocal Investigation Led to Ethics Fine

A GoLocal investigation in 2014 that delved into Solomon's ethics filings, then led to a filing of a complaint, which resulted in a $2.000 fine, which was levied in November of 2014.

On November 18, 2014, the Rhode Island Ethics Commission ordered Solomon to pay a civil penalty of $2000 for "failing to make required disclosures on 2008-2013 financial statements with the commission, in violation of state law."

Transparency

Solomon, in his letter, announces his run in 2026, claiming, “Government transparency was another priority. As Council President, I was proud to have created the Providence Open Government to enhance transparency.

The sitting Councilor for the 5th Ward is Jo-Ann Ryan. She is term-limited.

The Democratic primary will be held in September 2026.
