Guckian said he will officially announce his candidacy on Monday, December 1, 2025. He is running under the tagline "Think Big." Guckian is 6'7" tall and played basketball at Connecticut College.
GoLocal asked him the following in preparation for his formal announcement:
GoLocal: Why do you think a Republican will be viable this cycle?
Guckian: Because voters want practical leadership, not partisan extremes. If you focus on solutions, you will be viable in any election.
GoLocal: Do you see President Trump as a plus or a minus?
Guckian: I agree with some things and disagree with others. My focus is on Rhode Island, not Washington, DC.
GoLocal: Would you ask Trump to come to RI to campaign for you?
Guckian: I am running a Rhode Island first campaign. I don’t plan on bringing in national political figures at this time.
GoLocal: Foulkes, McKee, and potentially Shekarchi will all have millions to fund their campaigns. How can you compete?
Guckian: I plan on using the matching funds program. As you may know, I was able to qualify for this program last cycle when I ran for Lt. Governor.
GoLocal: If elected, what are your top priorities?
Guckian: Affordability, healthcare, education, lowering taxes/fees, and providing a competent, reliable state government.
Annoucement
“He’ll launch a bold, people-first agenda focused on restoring affordability, strengthening education, fixing Rhode Island’s broken healthcare system, supporting working families, and holding state government accountable,” said Guckian’s announcement.
“Guckian is running to rebuild trust, reduce costs, and ensure every family can build a better future here at home,” said his announcement.
Presently, Guckian's campaign account has a balance of $2,176.54.
Three Democrats have formally announced -- businessman Greg Stevens, Governor Dan McKee, and corporate executive Helena Foulkes.
