Exclusive: Filmmaker and Anti-Cianci Backer Corrente Named in $5.8 Million Lawsuit
Saturday, September 27, 2014
Michael Corrente, the local filmmaker named as an original organizer of the Anybody but Cianci effort, is the defendant in a $2 million lawsuit, GoLocal has learned. The suit claims with interest Corrente owes over $5.8 million.
Frank Zammiello is the owner of Northstar Aviation in Warwick and an investor in Camille's on Federal Hill, sued Corrente in Superior Court, claiming Corrente borrowed $2 million on October 21, 2004 pursuant to a promissory note, a loan agreement, and a term sheet, and that Corrente breached the contract.
"There now remains due and owing from the borrowers to plaintiff Zammiello, the principal sum of $2,000,000, plus contractual prejudgment interest theron in the additional sum of $3,813,699 as of November 28, 2012, for a total outstanding balance $5,813.699," wrote Zamiello in a sworn court affidavit on December 12, 2012.

Corrente Challenging Cianci
Following former Providence Mayoral candidate Lorne Adrain's exit from the race in July, Adrain named Corrente and Sally Strachan as the chief organizers of the third-party "anybody-but-Buddy" effort, to defeat former two-time Mayor -- and two-time convicted felon.
Film Director and Producer Corrente is best know for his films American Buffalo, Outside Providence, Brooklyn Rules and Federal Hill.
Corrente was tied to 38 Studios lawyer Michael Corso, who in 2012 pledged more than $14 million in Rhode Island motion picture tax credits -- that had not actually been issued as collateral in order to obtain an $8.5 million loan for Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios -- related to a Corrente movie that was slated to receive $625,000 in state tax credits. GoLocal reported the story in 2012.
Last week, in a confidential obtained by GoLocal showed that Adrain reached out to a group of individuals -- including Corrente -- about ramping up the effort, and that raising $500,000 to $1,000,000 was the goal for the still yet to be formed 501(c)4.
Corrente did respond to a request Friday as to how much he planned to contribute to the group.
Group spokesperson Jake Bisaillon said Friday afternoon that no official paperwork had been filed to date for a 501(c)4.
