22 Democrats Voted to Censure Rep. Tlaib for Antisemitic Comments; See How Magaziner Voted

The battle over antisemitism raged in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday on Capitol Hill.
Twenty-two Democrats voted to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (R-Mich.) for her criticism of Israel following Hamas’s deadly attack last month.
The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.), accused Tlaib of “promoting false narratives regarding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel.”

The American Jewish Congress defines the phrase as, “There is of course nothing antisemitic about advocating for Palestinians to have their own state. However, calling for the elimination of the Jewish state, praising Hamas or other entities who call for Israel's destruction, or suggesting that the Jews alone do not have the right to self-determination, is antisemitic.”

Rhode Island’s Congressman Seth Magaziner (D-2) votes against censuring her.
The vote was 234 to 188.
Four Republicans voted against censuring Tlaib, while one Democrat and three Republicans voted “present,” declining to take a position.
Presently, Rhode Island has only one member of the House of Representatives.
In February, former Cicilline announced that he was stepping down from his seat in Congress to take over the position as the head of the Rhode Island Foundation and collect a salary of $650,000 for the group dedicated to supporting those in need. Cicilline officially resigned his office on June 1.
On Tuesday night, Gabe Amo was elected to the vacant first district seat.
