Long Time Teacher Thomas F. Maguire, Jr. of North Kingstown Dies at 82

Thomas F. Maguire, Jr. of North Kingstown, Thomas (Tom,Tomás) Maguire, 82, died on Sunday, March 13, 2022 after a brief illness. He was the life partner of Dori O’Sullivan for ten years.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Thomas F. Maguire, Sr. and Lillian (Trainor) Maguire.
Tom was a retired English and theater teacher for the Scituate Public School Department. He also taught in Johnston Public Schools.
Tom was an incredibly kind, generous and talented man. He was a playwright, having had several of his works performed in local venues as well as New York. Tom was also an Irish musician, well known and respected in the Irish music community. For many years he hosted Irish music seisiuns at Tara’s in Matunuck. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and became an Irish Citizen in 1990.
Cycling was Tom’s passion; he completed 30 century rides in his lifetime. He could always be seen riding around South County from Wickford to Narragansett, to Matunick and beyond! Many people referred to him as “Bicycle Tom”.
Spending time with his grandchildren making pizza or exploring the beaches of RI, collecting rocks and shells, and singing songs about the “Shellakybooky” was very special to Tom.
Always the teacher, Tom has donated his body to Brown University’s Anatomical Gift Program.
Besides his life partner, Dori, he leaves behind his daughter Brenda Costa (Eric) of Harrisville, RI , two grandchildren, Isabel Costa and Declan Costa, both of Harrisville. He is also survived by a brother, Joe Maguire of North Providence and two sisters, Roz Killilea (Jim) of Warwick and Monica Sherlock (Tom) of South Carolina, four nieces and three nephews as well as several grand-nieces and nephews and a stepson, Brendan O’Sullivan.
An outdoor Celebration of Life this summer - date and place to be determined.
