Yurdin New Majority Leader for Providence City Council

Seth Yurdin has been elected the majority leader of the Providence City Council by a vote of the 15-member Democratic caucus. Councilman Nicholas Narducci will serve as the deputy majority leader.

“I am honored to have the support of my fellow city council members to serve as majority leader,” said Yurdin. “Working together with all members of the council, we will push to address the significant challenges facing the city – creating jobs, improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods and bettering our schools.”

The caucus also said it was backing Councilman Michael Solomon as president and Terrence Hassett as the president pro tempore. Hassett, who was the previous majority leader, is currently recovering from serious injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run on Federal Hill last weekend.

Yurdin, 42, represents Ward 1, which encompasses Fox Point, College Hill, and Wayland Square. He has served on the council since 2006.

“Seth Yurdin has shown a great ability to work with his colleagues on a wide-range of issues. He will work to make sure the council best serves the residents of Providence,” Solomon said.
