VIDEO: Roger Stone Convicted - Deep Ties to Former RI Governor
Saturday, November 16, 2019
Republican consultant Roger Stone with deep ties to Rhode Island was found guilty on multiple federal charges on Friday.
“Stone, 67, was convicted in federal court of seven felonies for obstructing the congressional inquiry, lying to investigators under oath and trying to block the testimony of a witness whose account would have exposed his lies. Jurors deliberated for a little over seven hours before convicting him on all counts, reports the New York Times.
Stone and fellow former Donald Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort were partners in the firm Black, Manafort and Stone and the firm was the top political consultant to then-Governor Ed DiPrete in the late 1980s. DiPrete served three terms as RI governor from 1985 to 1991.

Stone now faces a maximum prison term of 50 years.
DiPrete also served one year in prison in Rhode Island. In December of 1998, DiPrete pled guilty to state charges of bribery, extortion, and racketeering, and was sentenced to a year in prison.
In a plea bargain, he admitted accepting $250,000 in exchange for state contracts during his term as governor.
“In a last-minute bid for salvation, prosecutors said, Mr. Stone appealed to Mr. Trump for a pardon on Thursday, using a right-wing conspiracy theorist who runs the website Infowars as his proxy. Mr. Trump attacked the guilty verdict against Mr. Stone in a tweet on Friday but made no mention of a pardon,” writes the NYT.
